After flirting with hip hop at the beginning of the 90's with Shabba Ranks and Sweetie Irie near the end of the 90's a new album by Scritti Politti was finally released. By this time Green had a beard. Again some rappers were involved including Mos Def. Critics were very positive about the new album but it failed to return into the charts. The album climbed to #33 in the UK. Of the earlier line-up of Scritti Politti only David Gamson made an appearance on this album for the last time. Fred Maher was not present on the album.

David Gamson in 2021 |
In 2003 Green made an appearance on Kylie Minogue's album "Body Language" with a duet. Then in January 2006 introduced a new incarnation of Scritti Politti named Double G and the Traitorous 3 peforming live in Brixton (UK). It was the first live performance of Green since 1980! This band includes: journalist/musician Rhodri Marsden on keyboards, Dicky Moore on guitar and Ralph Phillips on drums. Another small amount of concerts in the UK were done to promote the new album to be released. "White Bread, Black Beer" was released on Rough Trade on 29 May 2006. A better come-back then the previous album because the album was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize later that year. The new line-up toured throughout the world including North America. They were now performaing again under the name Scritti Politti. This album puts Scritti Politti back on the map and is in my opinion the best Scritti Politti album ever. The album included the single "The Boom Boom Bap" about the difference between being in love with something and being unhealthily addicted to it.

In 2007 Green worked with Hot Chip singer Alexis Taylor. In 2008 Green toured throughout the UK and Australia for "Way to Blue: The Songs of Nick Drake" together with other artists performing the songs of Nick Drake. A live CD was released from this event including Green peforming Drake's "Fruit Tree". Another tribute for the Incredible String Band at a concert at the Barbican in London including many artists besides Green was done in 2009. On the 28th of February 2011 "Absolute", a compilation of singles and album tracks was released, with two new tracks both written with David Gamson: "Day Late and a Dollar Short" and "A Place We Both Belong". In 2012 a christmas album by Tracey Thorn (from Everything But The Girl) titled "Tinsel and Lights" was released including a cover version of "Snow in Sun" including Green himself duetting with Tracey. Green kept on collaborating with other artists like the Manic Street Preachers on their song "Between the Clock and the Bed" in 2014.
