The Smiths (1984) - rating: ***
Includes "Reel Around The Fountain", "What Difference Does It Make" and "Hand In Glove". All round theme about child abuse but production fails. US editions also offers "This Charming Man" single.

Hatful Of Hollow (1984) - rating: ****
Not an official studio album but a compilation made of exclusive singles, BBC radio sessions and their first album "The Smiths". But serves as a good alternative to the debut album with a better selection including the singles from this period.

Meat Is Murder (1985) - rating: ****
The album starts with the best song they ever made: "The Headmaster Ritual" which was only released as a single in the Netherlands. Also has the single "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore". US editions also offer "How Soon Is Now". Read my review here.

The Queen Is Dead (1986) - rating: *****
At the peak of their career with 3 singles "Big Mouth Strikes Again", "The Boy With The Torn In His Side" and "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others".

Strangeways, Here We Come (1987) - rating: ******
The last album of the band is a highlight in their career with more dark and tragic songs like "Girl In A Coma" and "Unhappy Birthday". Another great single and longest song title they released "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before"
